Health Improvers

Health Improvers is a Programme of four courses for people who wish to become more active and have increasing influence over their health and wellbeing. It is possible for anybody, whatever their age or current health status, to progressively develop their capacity to improve their levels of health and fitness. Health Improvers as a programme offers that opportunity. No matter what your current knowledge and capability of influencing and strengthening your own health our Health Improvers programme can guide you to progressively develop your own wellbeing and fitness. The Programme’s four phases are designed in sequence so that people can progressively and increasingly build knowledge, capability, confidence and activity, to improve and influence the quality and duration of their wellbeing and life.

The programme lead on Health Improvers is Colin Tuckwell.  Mari-Anne and David also lead some courses.

Beginners….. is for people with no previous active interest or knowledge in ensuring their wellbeing, strengthening their health or have influence over their healthy span of life. The course is eight sessions, at the end of which clients will experience some noticeable improvements in their wellbeing, and will be getting very used to being more physically active. Other course objectives are to explore nutrition and physical activity in ways that clients can start to decide where their interests, choices and enjoyment will lie when further and increasingly progressing their health improvements and fitness.

People starting the beginners course are typically unsure, uneasy, not knowing quite what’s involved. All our coaches are trained and highly experienced in working with and supporting people who have made the really big decision to “take the plunge”, “give it a shot”. You will be delighted you did, and brushed aside those excuses and thoughts for not getting involved, like – too difficult to find time; not-knowing anyone there; your age; “will I be able to do this?”; “I’m not the sporty type”. The sessions will gently increase your level of activity, at a pace you and your coach find and see as best for you.

As well as our highly supportive coaches, the activities you’ll experience will be with a warm and friendly group of people with aims similar to yours. Social contact is a really important part of all our courses and clients’ enjoyment with us. People find mutual encouragement, shared experiences and new friendships with their course peers.

The eight Beginners sessions are over eight weeks. After signing-up, your personal consultation with a coach will last approximately 25-30 minutes. The consultation costs £12, and you will confirm together which of our courses best suits your personal aims and current health level. The beginners course costs £60 for the eight sessions and gives access to all our members’ materials and services including previous sessions’ recordings, our health and wellbeing archive and social groups.

Progressers is a twelve session course over six weeks for people with a good basic understanding of how they can use physical activity, diet and rest to progressively improve and influence their overall health. By the end of the twelve session course clients will be noticeably stronger and have improved energy levels, concentration and self-confidence. Many of the physical activities they have been adopting will have become ingrained in the nervous systems, facilitating on-going and accelerating health improvements.

Clients have typically progressed from our Beginners course or have similar levels of knowledge of how physical activity, diet and rest are fundamentally important in influencing our health. The course explores these topics in further detail, whilst physical activity continues to gently increase in intensity. At this stage, many of the physical activities they have been adopting will have become ingrained in their nervous systems, facilitating on-going and accelerating health improvements. With new skills in guiding their own wellbeing, clients will increasingly understand the bases of making effective decisions for lasting improvements to their health. With heightened endurance, balance and coordination their range of possible activities will be broadening, too. With this new knowledge, capability and self-confidence clients and their coach will be discussing personal preferences whilst continuing to further increase their physical activity levels. The free consultation available, as with all our courses, on course completion will explore in detail the clients’ preferences and options. Continued friendship, encouragement and shared experiences with course peers is a staple of this and all our courses.

The progressers course costs £90 for the twelve sessions and gives access to all our members’ materials and services including previous sessions’ recordings, our health and wellbeing archive and social groups.

Persisters

Clients on the Persisters course have a strong understanding of the most significant ways in which they can positively influence their own health and well-being. They have an evolving confidence in making decisions relating to shaping improved health.

The course is for people who have completed the Progressers course or have a similar level of knowledge and capability. Participants’ bodies and level of knowledge are now able to support more intense activity and challenge. With clients’ evolving interests likely to be somewhat varied given their good level of fitness, we tailor each course to reflect the group member’s individual aims. A motivation in common will be a desire to adopt improving their health and wellbeing as an integral part of their daily lives.

The twenty session, ten-week course will see clients strengthen their wellbeing by very significant degrees. At the course end clients can expect to have strongly increased health, fitness and self-confidence, comfortable in making important decisions about how to ensure continuing improvements in their wellbeing, in both the short- and long-run. Participants can expect cardiovascular improvements of up to 50% and muscular strength improvements of up to 25% over the ten weeks of the course.

During the second half of the course clients will be guided in designing activities that will best support their on-going progress in their own interest areas. Peer support and friendship, as for all our courses, remains an important part of clients’ enjoyment and experience.

The twenty Persisters sessions are over ten weeks. After signing-up, your personal consultation with a coach will last approximately 25-30 minutes. The Persisters course costs £150 for the twenty sessions and gives access to all our members’ materials and services including previous sessions’ recordings, our health and wellbeing archive and social groups.

On Getting Younger

…..is a twenty six session course that enables clients to explore further avenues and possibilities for extending their health and fitness. At the same time they will be making strong strides in establishing a significantly higher level of fitness, vitality and knowledge of wellbeing improvement. Clients will start with a thorough understanding of how to maintain their wellbeing at a high level. On Getting Younger, builds upon this knowledge, obtained through the Persisters course or equivalent experience, and guides clients to develop very high levels of fitness: particularly focused on activities clients wish to continue pursuing. The course activities, therefore, are tailored to the goals of participating clients, who are actively involved in their design. Course content covers new knowledge on nutrition, recovery and rehabilitation important at the activity intensity levels clients are now achieving. The course is open to clients of all ages, who will be embracing new knowledge and experience of the strong improvements in health and fitness they are able to achieve throughout life. Such that, whatever age they are currently, they can make reductions in their biological age by achieving much more of their fitness potential. And with it, really inspiring and enduring improvements in vitality, self-confidence and all round wellbeing.

Clients’ ability to further influence their physical conditioning and the range of their related decision-making capability is also very significantly extended. Clients’ motivations to achieve new challenges are mutually reinforced within the course peer group by appreciating one another’s outstanding, ongoing achievements.

The twenty-six “On Getting Younger” sessions are over thirteen weeks. After signing-up, your personal consultation with a coach will last approximately 25-30 minutes. The  course costs £200 for the twenty-six sessions and gives access to all our members’ materials and services including previous sessions’ recordings, our health and wellbeing archive and social groups.
